Spicy Sausage Dip

Sorry for my lack of posting, I have been feeling a little under-the-weather this week :( But I'm starting to feel a lot better, which means I can get back to posting my recipes! It's once again FOOTBALL SATURDAY... ROLL TIDE ROLL & Go Dawgs!! So, I'm posting a quick & easy dip that is sure to please. It is very similar to the ever-popular Rotel dip, but instead of using Velveeta, cream cheese is used. The dip is creamy, but still spicy from the hot sauce and candied jalapenos. It's super easy to throw together at the last minute, but still just as tasty! Enjoy :)
Creamy & Spicy Sausage Dip

For the Dip:
1 Sweet Onion, Sliced & Caramelized
1 16oz Package of Spicy Pork Sausage
1-2T Maple Syrup
2 10oz Cans of Rotel Tomatoes, Drained
2T Candied Jalapenos, Diced
2 8oz Packages of Cream Cheese, Room Temperature
Hot Sauce (to your liking)

Directions:
1. In a large skillet, caramelize the onions until golden brown & sweet. Drain from the pan into a bowl and set aside. Next, cook the sausage in the same pan over medium-high heat until evenly browned and no longer pink. Once cooked through, toss in the maple syrup, and then drain the sausage into the same bowl with the onions (discarding the excess oil). Reduce the heat to low and add the onions & sausage back into the pan with the tomatoes, candied jalapenos, cream cheese, and hot sauce. Stir until evenly blended and creamy. Cook until just heated through.
2. Serve warm and with potato chips.
